The Mondrian at
Cityplace is a post-modern architectural, themed high-rise
tower containing 146 dwellings for lease. The building
is located in the Uptown neighborhood of Dallas. The
building’s owner and interior designer, Adrienne Faulkner,
asked Brad Oldham to conceptualize and create sculptures for
the lobby that would uniquely compliment the design but not
overpower or detract from the existing interior design.
Oldham used the multiple Mondrian colors and
blocks, transformed into a 3D world and assembled like an
erector set. Each piece was hand-cast, hand-polished and assembled
on site from the bottom up. The 800-pound sculpture has become
an iconic piece for the project. Oldham overcame the challenge
of installing wall sculptures on curved surfaces with a custom,
three-point mounting system. The stainless steel wall sculptures
compliment and reflect themes of the resin sculpture in the
middle of the lobby:
• Freestanding, 800-pound, resin and stainless steel
sculpture
• Resin wall sculptures
• Stainless steel wall sculpture
